Decarbonisation of the Building Industry
The buildings sector emits nearly 40% of global CO2 emissions, of which two-third comes from the operation of buildings and one-third from building materials and construction. Decarbonising buildings needs action across building design & construction, materials & product industry as well as in the energy sector. Action through policies, product & technology choices, and energy-efficiency measures have been implemented. However, a lot more needs to be done. This session will focus on:
- Discussing various aspects of decarbonizing the building sector
- Examples of action across building design, materials and clean energy use
- Challenges in implementing these actions and ensuring its effectiveness
- Side-effect of the transition to a low-carbon building sector and managing them
